He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert and Amey (Hawley); his wife Mary Quam of Toronto; and his brothers, Kenneth Hawley and Glen Hatlestad.

He is survived by: his children, Thomas of Plymouth and Susan Morris (Ian); his grandson Elliot of Bainbridge Island; his nephew Lauren Quam (Brenda) of Copley; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Jeremy (Rebecca), Lucas and Kianna (Bradley).

Memorials may be directed to Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, University Lutheran Center (Brookings), Augustana University, Concordia College, or a charity of the donor's choosing.
