He was predeceased by: his parents, Larrie L. Butler and Rena Butler (Gaines); his wife Linda Lou Butler; his brother Raymond Butler; his grandson Christian Whitaker; and his great grandchild Timothy James Schurman.
He is survived by: his children, Robbie Butler (Connie) of Quasqueton, IA, Brenda Schurman (Tim) of Tyndall, Kim Vitek of Yankton, SD and Michele Arneson (Jerry) of Aberdeen, SD; his grandchildren, Trista Herren, Brandon Schurman, David Butler, Trevor Arneson, Derek Vitek, Tyler Schurman, Nicole Vitek, Nyssa Arneson, Nathan Sangster and Amber Burks; his nephew Blain Butler; his niece Jacalyn Butler; and his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Brown and Virginia Butler. He is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren.
