He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Hakl and Elizabeth Hakl (Blacknik); his brother Ernest Hakl; his parents-in-law, Alfred and Lorinda Jerke; and his son-in-law Jay Johannsen.
He is survived by: his wife Carol (Jerke); his children, Kevin Hakl (Kathryn), Brian Hakl (Tamera) and Lori Spencer (Mark); and his grandchildren, Brandon, Brooklynn, Brianna Hakl, Lexie, McKenzie Johannsen and Allie.
