He was predeceased by: his parents, Alex Backer and Helen Wasmiller Backer; his siblings, Judy Lundgreen, Joni Backer, Max Backer and Freddie Backer; and his granddaughter Kayla Brown.
He is survived by: his wife Susan Backer of Arlington, TN; his children, Anna Pope of Alexandria, VA, David Backer (Dee) of Colorado Springs, CO and Christopher Backer (Racee) of Lemoore, CA; his stepdaughter Sabrina White (Linwood) of Collierville, TN; his daughter Misty Backer (Rob) of Denver, CO; his stepsons, Steven Brown (Tasha) of Springhill, TN and Stanley Brown (Kaitlyn) of Arlington, TN; his sisters, Barbara Hansen of North Plat, NE and Renae Duckworth of North Plat, NE; and his grandchildren, Jalen, Savannah, Isabella, Niklas, Lukas, Isaak, Lynlee, Preston, Rylee, McKenna, Abiyah, Eliana and Uriyah.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel (10670 US-64, Somerville, TN 38068). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 5th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the same location. The military honors will be held on Tuesday, August 5th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:15 PM at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN 38125).
