He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Fred Ackerman and Beulah "Bea" Jobe Ackerman; his wife Susan; his children, Jennifer (Robert) and Taylor; and his grandchildren, Paxton and Gianna.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his name to Fisher House Foundation, the charity that provided invaluable support and housing to the family during Michael's first heart surgery.
