It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carl L Sturgill of Athens, Tennessee, who passed away on August 14, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John J Sturgill and Myrtle Johnson Sturgill; his wife Peggy Ann Norton Sturgill; his son John Robert Sturgill; and his siblings, Frank Sturgill, Jack Sturgill, Joe Sturgill, Henry Sturgill, Ray Sturgill, Dan Sturgill and Lois Armstrong.
He is survived by: his children, Dana Dean (Bryant) of Cleveland, Greg Sturgill (Lisa) of Etowah, Mike Shannon of Cleveland, Scott Shannon (Lisa) of Guntersville, Ala. and Pat Shannon (Denise) of Knoxville Tenn; his sister-in-law Alline Thomas Sturgill of Riceville, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Taylor Shannon, Meaghan Richards (Thomas), Lauren Farris (Jordon), Kyle Shannon (Courtney) and Reid Shannon (Riley); and his great grandchildren, Laney Farris, Parker Shannon and Hayden Shannon.
