It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Lofton Carter Jr. (Athens, Tennessee), who passed away on January 12, 2024, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his father James Lofton Sr.; and his sisters, Jennie Ruth Carter, Evelyn Carter, Joan Plummer, Jamie Schaatt, Jere Brewer and Billie Burrows.
He is survived by : his wife Susan Hudson Carter of Athens; his sons, Dr. Jayson (Christy Carter) and David Carter of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Ashlyn Underdown (Caleb), Julianne Carter and Lofton Carter; and his great grandchild Samuel Jay Underdown.
The family suggests memorials be made to Keith Memorial United Methodist CHurch for Renovations of the Childrens Dept. of the church, P.O. Box 1, Athens TN 37371-0001.
