He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Carpenter and Helen Robinson Carpenter; his son Lawrence "Trey" Carpenter; and his stepdaughter Audra Inman. He is survived by: his wife Susan Frye Carpenter; his children, Kelley C. Michie of Charlotte, NC and Alan Carpenter of Greensboro, NC; his stepson Craig (Carolyn Inman) of Mt. Juliet, TN; and his grandchildren, Jack, Mary Catherine Michie and Madison Inman.
