He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Short and Bonnie Lawson Short; his granddaughter Neely Elizabeth Prince; his parents-in-law, Kyle Wesley Baker and Mary Lena Ross Baker; and his brothers-in-law, Kyle Ross Baker, Charles Baker, Jim Baker and Larry Murphy.

He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Nell Baker Short; his daughters, Lisa Stratton (Mark) of Rutledge, Teresa Prince (Jonathan) of Morristown and Beth Acuff (Johnny) of Morristown; his grandchildren, Courtney Barding (Andrew), Celeste Porter (Evan), Nayland Prince, Nash Prince (Anette), Calyn Acuff and Garyn Acuff; his great grandchildren, Jeb Barding and Nora Porter; and his sisters-in-law, Sarah Murphy, Susie, Janice and Lori Baker. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
