He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman German and Maggie Adams German; his wives, Nancy Cheatham German and Mary Jane Benton German; and his siblings, Ed German, Hobert German, Hoyt German, Bob German, Charles German, Norman German, Bertha "Bert" Waters, Helen McAbee, Aileen Cowart, Charlotte Cook and Maxine Rucker.
He is survived by: his sons, Ronnie German (Ann) and Barry German (Stefanie); his stepchildren, Ruth-Ann Shamblin (Scott) and Robert Benton; his grandchildren, Tiffany Bell (Scott), Courtney Glass (Matt), Derrick German (Sanna), Caleb Hindman (Allison), Drew German (Tucker), Laura Swallows (Eddie), Clay Hindman (Natalee), Hollie Lowe (Matt), Todd Swafford (Cassie), Chris Shamblin (Beth) and Nick Benton; and his close friend Shelby Presswood. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
