She was predeceased by: her siblings, Hillard Bowden II, Walter L. Bowden, Iona Bowden and Thelma Bowden; her stepsons, Arthur Cole and Dwight Cole; her in-laws, Jim and Sophia Beard Newson; and her granddaughters, Gloria Newson and Lynn Jones.
She is survived by: her children, Lonnie Newson, Tyron Cole, Jacqueline Jones and Shelia McKinney; her siblings, Clara Jackson, Florine Stigger, W. C. Bowden, Anderson Bowden (Alma) and Earl Bowden (Josephine); her stepchildren, Donald, David, Willie, Debra, Verneda, Cletonia, Barnum and Lucille Cole; and her friend Johnnie L. Russell. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren.
