He was predeceased by: his parents, William Elbert Buchanan and Josie Cox Buchanan; his wife Darlene Atwell Buchanan; his brother Glenn Buchanan (Joyce); and his nephew Keith Buchanan.

He is survived by: his daughter Elaine Buchanan Daniels (Uley S. Daniels, Jr.); his grandchildren, Allen Scott Daniels (Alison Davis) and Abigail Kathleen Daniels (Jonathan Gonzalez); his niece Barbara Buchanan; his brother-in-law Robert Clay Atwell Sr. (Ruth); his nieces and nephews, Robert Clay, Jr., Linda and Shannon; Allen Scott Daniels, Jr. (A. J.).
