He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Harold Scarem, Sr. and Olive Prinkey Scarem; and his sisters, Elaine Scarem Sorreson and Dorothy Scarem Vallejo. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Childers Scarem; his daughter Carolyn (Marty Redden) of Waynesboro; his grandchildren, David (Connie Scarem) of Johnson City, Josh Redden (Mary), Micah Redden (Jenna), Michael Scarem and Caleb Scarem; and his great grandchildren, Jackson, Carolina and Ellie Redden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Recovery Soldiers Ministries in Elizabethton, TN. recoverysoldiersministries.org/donations.
