He was predeceased by: his parents, George Carl and Margie Leneal Allen Cathey; and his brother Carl Wayne Cathey. He is survived by: his children, Misty Long (Morris) of Brownsville, TN and Brandon Cathey of Pinson, TN.; his brother Brian Cathey (Amanda) of Columbus, MS; his grandchildren, Sara Martin (Mikey), Lindsey Schlink (Chad) and Stephen Jennings; his great grandchildren, Cas Schlink and Ginny Schlink; and his nephew Craig Cathey (Tonya).
