He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Adkins and Dimple Adkins; and his brother Kenneth Adkins. He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Ellison Adkins; his sister Doris Adkins Ellis; his sibling's children, Cara Woolsey (Jonathon), Vicki Goldsmith (James), Dawn Beard (Carl) and Kenny Adkins (Amy); his goddaughter Keli Cooper (Marcus); his siblings-in-law, Jayne Ellison Harbour, Randy Ellison and Michael Ellison; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Tim Goldsmith (Kat), Olivia Goldsmith, Michael Adkins (Macy), Ellison Beard (Josh) and Connor Beard (Rachel).
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14th 2025 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Lookout Valley Baptist Church (23 Lilac Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37419). A committal service will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Chattanooga National Cemetery (1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404).
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Ray's memory can be made to the Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center or a veteran's organization of your choice.
