He was predeceased by: his parents, Lillard Turney Thompson and Ada Frank Woody Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Susan Rogers Thompson; his children, Gabriel Warne Thompson (Candice) and Anna Terese Thompson (Sam Mrozowski); his grandchildren, Tasio Thompson, Finn Thompson, Sosie Thompson, Ada Thompson, Julius Mrozowski, Gresham Mrozowski and Turney Mrozowski; and his brothers, Terry Thompson (Marge) and Tim Thompson (Ruth). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and bountiful extended family.

In lieu of flowers, Turney requested donations be made on his behalf to Médicos Mission Fund 1148 E. 23rd Street Chattanooga, TN 37408.
