He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Bates and Georgia Bates; his former wife Sarah; his wife Violet; and his brothers, Charles Jr., Joseph Lloyd, Freddie and Eddie Bates (Glenda) of Ooltewah.
He is survived by: his children, Lottie East (Sean) of East Ridge, Sherry Newbille of South Carolina, Melissa Slater (Travis) of Evensville, Bobby, Kenneth, Kevin (Debbie) and David; and his siblings, Betty Stapp of Ringgold, Faye McFarland (Larry) of Benton and Gene Bates (Susan) of East Ridge. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Lane Funeral Home - South Crest Chapel (833 Chickamauga Ave, Rossville, GA 30741). A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Lakewood Memory Gardens East (4621 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37411).
