He was predeceased by: his parents, Lora Mae Templeton Byars and Howard Byars; and his siblings, Clarice Byars, Edward Byars and Peggy Byars Wiggs.
He is survived by: his sister Carolyn Byars Talley; his siblings-in-law, Bill Wiggs and Astrid Byars; his wife Vicki Byars; his grandchildren, Justin Liner, Zach Liner, Lindsey Bailey (Ballard) and Chloe Stickrod; and his nieces, Laqueta Soule (Robert), Angie Kasting (Troy) and Miriam Brooks (Ryan). He is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, neighbors, and dear friends.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Coulter Chapel of the Lane Funeral Home (601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga whose kindness, compassion, and care have meant so much during this difficult time.
