He was predeceased by: his wife Melinda Stapleton Benjamin; his children, Julie Dawn Smith and Robert Grover Benjamin; his parents, Grover Benjamin and Verda Mae Benjamin; and his siblings, Edith Mize, Ruby Ziegler, Mary Wilhelm, Russell Benjamin, Edwin Benjamin and Robert D. Benjamin.
He is survived by: his children, Kimberly Beck (Gary), Phillip Lee Benjamin Sr. and James David Benjamin (Starla); his sisters, Louise Atherholt and Shirley Dellerson; his grandchildren, Greg Beck, Tammy Beck Alicia, Tyler Benjamin, Phillip Benjamin, Nicole Benjamin, Jack Benjamin, Tiffany Smith, Samantha Smith-Burkes and Christopher Smith; and his caregiver Myrna Beck. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
