She was predeceased by: her husband Jimmy Smiley; her parents, Ralph Mitchell Smiley and Eula Smiley; her siblings, Bernice Shelton, Virginia Bartlett, Gloria Mayes and Neil Smiley; and her pet Sadie.

She is survived by: her children, Angela Whaley Vaughn (Carla Mickel), Kathy Whaley, Keith Whaley and Billy Whaley; her sister Emma Lucille Tow; and her close friend Janette Standifer (Macy). She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
