He was predeceased by: his parents, Horace Palmer and Chester Mae Smotherman (Helton); and his brother William "Smiley" Smotherman. He is survived by: his daughter Angela; his son-in-law Ricky Wilkinson; his brothers, Edward (Virginia) and Bobby Smotherman; and his nephews, Ricky and Brian Smotherman.

Visitation was held on Monday, August 11th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home (820 S Church St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130). A graveside service was held on Monday, August 11th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Whitworth Cemetery (9387 Link Rd, Christiana, TN 37037).
