He was predeceased by : his parents, Hubert Thompson and Elvie Thompson; his grandfather Wayne; his brother Dave (Myrtle Hensley); the mother of his children Shirley Giles; his stepson Jimmy Berry; and his stepgrandson J. D. Berry.

He is survived by : his wife Patricia Thompson; his sons, Jonathan Thompson (Melissa) and Colby Thompson; his stepchildren, Darrell Berry, Tracy Couch (Bobby), Manelfia Lawson and Heather Cradic (Kevin); and his siblings, Alvin Dwayne Thompson (Carolyn), Angie Thompson and Kathy Smith (Randy). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
