He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd D. Payne and Mary Jo Newman Payne; his wife Sheila Wynn Payne; and his siblings, Patricia Payne Lewis, Timmy Payne and William "Pedro" Payne.
He is survived by: his son Justin Payne; his daughter-in-law Ruby Payne; his grandchildren, Darius Velt and Rachael Payne; his great grandchild Matilda Velt; and his brothers, L. D. Payne (Teresa) and Dale Payne (Peggy). He is also survived by many extended family members, church family members, and friends.
A funeral service was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 at 7:00 AM and from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the JIM Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee St. Chapel (2603 N Ocoee St, Cleveland, TN 37311). A burial was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Payne Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Staffordtown Church Building Fund.
