He was predeceased by: his parents, William Calvin Lafayette "Boss" Smith and Mary Kathleen Floyd Smith; his great grandchild Trevi'Onyah Cisco; and his siblings, Ida Mae Hitson, Ruth Brannon, Clarice Bonine and La Smith Sr..
He is survived by: his wife Maebell Hitson Smith; his daughters, Nancy Swinford, Cathy Smith (Larry Perry) and Connie Smith; his grandchildren, Charles Swinford, Heather Cisco and James Michael Sutton; his great grandchildren, Cid Swinford, Ebony Lister and Carson White; and his brother Carroll "Red" Smith (Sue Smith).
