He was predeceased by: his parents, Cline D Thurman and Leona Ruth Thurman; his son Chad Thurman; his in-laws, John and Donaline Pearson; his niece Kimberly Pearson Hawthorne; and his sister-in-law Sandi Pearson.

He is survived by: his wife Jo Nell Pearson Thurman; his son Jeff Thurman; his pet Gracie; his brothers, Johnny Pearson (Brenda) and Mike Pearson (Liz); his nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Curt Watson, Natalie, Ben Underwood, Jerry and Amie Pearson; and his close friend Jean McKey.

The family ask that any memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to The SPCA of Bradley County in Jimmy's name.
