He was predeceased by: his brother Larry Bivens; his parents, Muriel Bivens and Pledger Bivens; and his daughters, Darlene Benton and Connie Thacker.

He is survived by: his wife Martha Jean Bivens; his children, Alex Bivens, Michelle Geraldson, Tina Childers, Sherry Brown and Marie Hall; and his sisters, Sarah Hobbs and Kaye Keldorph. He is also survived by several grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Missionary Baptist Church.
