He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim S. Cowan and Ada Cowan (Dyer); his son James Cowan; and his siblings, Jeff, Fred Cowan, Ruth Kirby, Mildred Harris, Lois Scarlett, Carol Carr and Dorothy Pugh.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Cowan (Medlin); his son Tim; his daughter-in-law Stephanie Cowan of Cookeville; his daughter Lisa Neill of Cookeville; and his grandchildren, Marti Neill, Brandon Neill, Connor Cowan, Carter Cowan and Hayden Cowan.
