He was predeceased by: his son Vince Carpenter; his parents, Johnny Carpenter and Maggie Carpenter; and his sisters, Christine Young and Juanita Helton.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda Cosson Carpenter of Cookeville; his daughter Renee'Carpenter of Nashville; his granddaughters, Katherine Trubee of Knoxville, Mahala Carpenter of Cookeville and Alexa Carpenter of Cookeville; his daughter-in-law Kelly Carpenter; and his siblings, Claude Carpenter and Linda Livesay (Shelton). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
