He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas E. Key and Dorothy Alberta Key; his wife Nancy Key; his daughter Deborah Anne Lewis; his sister Sherrie Younce; and his niece Janice Burkhead.

He is survived by: his children, Teresa Truong (Huy), Jessie Patterson Jr. (Stephanie), Valorie Britt and Margaret Barche (Luis Sung); his sister Beverly Mathews; his nephews, Robert Mathews (Nikki) and Tommy Taylor; and his grandchildren, Keylin Truong, Cody Flatt, Casey Flatt, Allyson Patterson, Peyton Patterson, Kyler Patterson, Jessica Slagle (Scotty), Levi Davison (Jessica), Taylor Britt, Crystal Barche, Ronald Barche, Thomas Barche (Elissa), Scotty Boyer (Nancy), Perry Randolph, Robert Horton, Mandy Buford and Samantha Horton.

Visitation was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cookeville Chapel (59 N Jefferson Ave, Cookeville, TN 38501). A masonic service was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home (59 N Jefferson Ave, Cookeville, TN 38501).
