He was predeceased by: his parents, Roberta Deaver McNeil and John C. McNeil. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Jones McNeil; his brother John McNeil (Linda); his children, Robert E. McNeil (Suzanne), Jennifer McNeely and Rebecca Schrimsher (Brian); and his grandchildren, Nathan Schrimsher (Sara), Sarah Schrimsher (Jonathon), Rachel Schrimsher, Henry McNeil, Jonathan McNeil (Mary), Benjamin McNeil and London McNeely.

Visitation was held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Fountain City Chapel (2829 Rennoc Rd, Knoxville, TN 37918). A funeral service was held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Monday, August 11th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Clear Springs Baptist Church Cemetery (8515 Thompson School Rd, Corryton, TN 37721).
