He was predeceased by : his parents, Albert Bowie and Jessie Bowie; and his siblings, James "Danny" Bowie, Albert Bowie and Patricia Reddin.

He is survived by : his daughters, Michelle McConnell (Daryl) and Melissa Hicks (Jimmy); his grandchildren, Holden McConnell, Abigail McConnell, Tanner Hicks, Braden Hicks and Nolan Hicks; and his brother John "Buddy" Bowie (Glenda).

Memorials may be made to Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Gary's honor.
