He was predeceased by: his father Lester David Abel Sr.; and his mother-in-law Norma Jean Fraley. He is survived by: his mother Lois Francisco Abel; his wife Lori Fraley Abel; his siblings, Linda Kay Cleveland (Paul) of Alabama, Pam Foster (Rod) of New Mexico, Tina Camlic (Luke) of Georgia and David Abel Jr. (Linda) of Dayton; his father-in-law Malcolm Fraley of Dayton; and his close friend Mike Sinclair. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews and twenty-one great-nieces and great-nephews.
