He was predeceased by : his parents, Dewey Vines and Vertie Whaley (Stines); and his siblings, Norman Vines, Bob Vines, Toney Vines and Martha Guinn.

He is survived by : his wife Hilda Sheppard Vines; his children, Gilbert Vines, Jr. (Tracy) of Elizabethton, Christy Vines and Heather Elliott (Mack) of Elizabethton; his grandchildren, Allison Rajewski (Rich) of Chicago, Megan Elliott of Elizabethton, David Elliott of Bainbridge Island, WA, Zachary of Elizabethton and Kyleigh Elliott of Elizabethton; his great grandchild Alathia Elliott of Elizabethton; his siblings, Dan Vines (Angela) of Jonesborough and Vicky Snyder (Dan) of Jonesborough; and his nieces, Amy, Jeannie, Alena and Tari. He is also survived by his children and grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 at 5:30 PM at the Harvest Baptist Church (309 E F St, Elizabethton, TN 37643).
