He was predeceased by: his parents, David Larry Kennedy, Sr. and Martha Jean Kennedy; his wife Shirley Ann Kennedy; and his siblings, William Gartrell Kennedy and Jeanne Christian Kennedy Williams.

He is survived by: his daughter Shana Leigh Kennedy; his grandchildren, Caroline Kennedy Schultz, Palmer Jeffrey Schultz, Layla Stuart Szikman and Daniel Steele Kennedy (Cynthia Maung Kennedy); his great grandchildren, Riley Daniel Xuchai Kennedy and Rose Yumei Kennedy; and his sister Karen Kennedy of Florence, Alabama..

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Franklin First United Methodist Church, an institution that held deep meaning in David's life.
