He was predeceased by: his parents, Bennie Johnson and Ruby Louise Holt Johnson; and his sister Ruth Hardin. He is survived by: his wife Tiny Lou McCandless Johnson; his daughters, Amanda Cartwright and Ruby Cox (Carey) of Fairview; his grandchildren, Carrie Olson (Patrick) of Bon Aqua, Christie Cartwright (Charlie Oliphant), Holly Cox and Brody Cox of Fairview; and his siblings, Essie B. Williams and Bennie Johnson, Jr. of Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bending Chestnut Baptist Church.
