He was predeceased by: his parents, Major C. McCarter and Emma Jean McSpadden McCarter; his in-laws, James and Joyce Maddox; his brother-in-law Ralph Miller; and his nephew Mark Miller.
He is survived by: his wife Rita Maddox McCarter; his children, Andrea and Jim McCarter (Robin); his grandchildren, Kristina, Sydney, Shiloh, Jeremiah, Harper and Rylee McCarter; his siblings, Martha Miller, Diane McFarland (Bob) and Alan McCarter (Debbie); and his brother-in-law Kelly Maddox (Janice).
