He was predeceased by: his parents, Cleo Chowning and Velma Powell Chowning; and his siblings, Donnie Chowning, Bobby Chowning, Jerry Chowning and Betty Elmore.
He is survived by: his wife Juanita Smith Chowning of Gallatin; his sons, Matt Chowning (Melissa) of Hendersonville, Rodney Smith (Valeria) of Florida and Justin Pitt (Christina) of Goodlettsville; his siblings, Jimmy Chowning of Kentucky and Linda Ball (Wilburn) of Coopertown; his grandchildren, Michelle Chowning (James), Bryan Chowning (Kate), Jacob Luther, Luis Gondim (Kennedy) and Matheus Gondim (Lauren); and his great grandchildren, Lyla Harper, Mack Harper, Quenitin Harper and Juilette Harper.
