He was predeceased by: his father Isaac Brooks. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Thomas; his sons, Thomas Chad Brooks (Jennifer Cowart) of Denton, TX and James Robert Brooks of Gallatin, TN; his grandchildren, Zachary Matthew Brooks of Bozeman, MT and Taylor Abigail Brooks of Denton, TX.; his uncle Max Blanton of Sylva; his sister Elaine Brooks Harwood of Chapel Hill, NC; and his sisters-in-law, Kathy Cox (Doug) of Myrtle Beach, SC and JoDee Ward of Monroe, GA..
