He was predeceased by: his parents, John Jay Carter and Elizabeth Neoma Carter; his brother Elmer Andrew Carter; his nephew Andy Andrew Carter; his great-nephew David Austin Gregg; and his brother-in-law Roger Wright.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Carter; his siblings, Benny Carter, Ernest Carter (Marie), Ralph Carter (Debra), Betty Stout (Gary), Susie King and Stella Joyner (Robert); his siblings-in-law, Doyle Carter, Nathan Carter, Mark Carter, Carroll Carter, Nancy Carter, Christine Seay, Linnis Wright, Eva Carter and Janetta Shipley; his great-nephew Cahleb Crawford; his nieces and nephews, Angel Crawford, John Lee Gregg, Paul Carter, Cody Carter and Chad Foulks; and his parents-in-law, Lillian and Billie Hubert Carter.
