He was predeceased by: his parents, Opal Smelcer and Roy Smelcer; his siblings, Catherine Dean, Joann Ealey, Gaynell Brobeck, Roy Jr. Smelcer, Billy Frank Smelcer and Charles Smelcer; his son-in-law Jay Paul Cooter; and his great grandchild Kelan Jack.
He is survived by: his wife Joann Smelcer; his children, Lisa Hughes (Paul White), Michelle Cooter (late Jay Paul) and Robert Smelcer; his grandchildren, Cortney Lawson (Codey), Katie Hughes (Tommy Lawson), Tyler Hughes (Katie Tipton), Trey Cooter (Clarissa) and Taylor Dunn (Austin); his great grandchildren, Colton Lawson, Caden Lawson, Christian Lawson, Cynslee Lawson, Camden Lawson, Cambree Lawson, Easton Cooter, Declan Cooter, Oaklynn Dunn and Summer Lawson; and his siblings-in-law, Kathy Mays, Linda Cutshaw, Cindy Sise, Shirley Sexton and Wayne Cutshaw (Tincy). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
