He was predeceased by: his parents, Gladys Proffitt and Harvey Proffitt; his siblings, Jack, Sherman, Don, Dick, Budd Proffitt and AnnaMae; and his close friend Timothy Gass.
He is survived by: his wife Fay Proffitt; his daughters, Tammy Wines (Bronzo Gosnell) and Karen Farr (Rickey Farr Sr.); his grandchildren, Ashley Smelcer, Michelle Laughlin, Crystal Wines, Jeffrey Wines, Madeline Farr and Amanda Farr; his great grandchildren, Gavin Smelcer, Aubrey Smelcer, Ashton Laughlin and Adalynn Wines; his siblings, Trula Morgan, Mary Turner, Barbara Courtany (Ken) and Vernie Proffitt; and his close friends, James Ellis, Brenda Inscore Shipley, Linda, Garland Franklin and Mary Helen Jones. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM and at 1:15 PM at the Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home (1125 Tusculum Blvd, Greeneville, TN 37745). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the St. Joseph Chapel Cemetery - Midway (790 McDonald Rd, Midway, TN 37809).
