He was predeceased by: his parents, Georgia Gass and Oscar Gass; and his brother Harold Dean "Hoss". He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Sayler (Gregg) and Mollie Gass Bauer (Walker); and his grandchildren, Seth, Ian Sayler, Andrew, Charlie and Henry Bauer. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.

Though Alzheimer's took hold in his later years, he maintained his spark and his stubborn streak throughout.
