She was predeceased by: her parents, Ned Burks, and Georgia Burks, Jr.; and her brother Eddie Burks. She is survived by: her husband Melvin Smith; her children, Darnella Bailey, Natasha Frey, Christopher Burks (Hillary), Melissa Smith and Joshua Smith; and her sisters, Hattie Burks and Louise Owens (James). She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
