He was predeceased by : his parents, Rev. V. H. Shears and Elois Bolton Shears-McCullah; his siblings, Kay Shears and Virgil Leland Shears; and his grandparents, Tom, Liddie Bolton, William Harrison and Lula Shears.

He is survived by : his daughters, Jessica Dominique Shears Phillips (Wesley) and Kristy Gabrielle Shears; his grandsons, Noah and Jett Phillips; and his siblings, Sue Pollard, Pat Lawson Jones, Vonda Moore, Leah Shears Elam, Gene Shears (Audrey) and Jerry Shears (Brenda). He is also survived by Numerous Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
