He was predeceased by: his mother Ruth Archer Shires; and his son Michael Shires. He is survived by: his wife Debbie Allen Shires; his children, Dr. Jay Shires (Brandi), Ben Shires, Sara Beth Newsom (Patrick) and Mary Kate Allen (Bob Eckhardt); his siblings, David Shires (Niki), Harriet Presson and Martha Alewine (Mike); his mother-in-law Charlene Walker; and his grandchildren, Matthew Newsom, Elizabeth Newsom, Lila Shires and Chloe Jarvis.
