He was predeceased by: his parents, Parks Townsend and Ophia Matherly Townsend; his wife Peggy Townsend; and his siblings, Kathryn Townsend, Gene Townsend, Willis Townsend, Bob Townsend, Matoka Woody, Denver Townsend and Argus Townsend.

He is survived by: his sons, Oggie Townsend (Shannon) and Shane Townsend (Stephanie Fine); his grandchildren, Bradley, Dylan, Jordyn and Ashlyn; and his sisters, JoAnn Valko and Maxine Franck.
