She was predeceased by: her parents, Joe Johnston and Ozell Guinn Johnston; her former husband Charles Edwin Gregory (Sam); her son Dale Edwin Gregory; her husband Billy Jay Hawk; her daughter-in-law Sarah Gregory; her siblings, Johnnie Roberts (Edward), Fannie Kate Johnston, Leland, Tommy Johnston of Greeneville, Jay Johnston of Maryland, Charles Johnston and Lloyd Johnston; and her stepgranddaughter Amanda Lee Shelton.
She is survived by: her grandchildren, Joe Gregory and Janetha Gregory; her brother Bruce Johnston (Mary) of Bluff City; her stepchildren, Debbie Shelton (Gary) and Jim Hawk of Elizabethton; her stepgrandchildren, Ellen Pittman (David), Luke Shelton (Jessi), Matt Shelton of Indiana and Steve Johnson (Amanda) of Tullahoma; and her sisters-in-law, Gail Johnston, Glenna Woolsey of Greeneville and Frances Hawk of Georgia. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
