He is survived by: his wife Charlene Gilbert; his children, Virgil Gilbert, Jr. of London, KY, Robert Dean Gilbert (Pam) of London, KY, Harrison "Ricky" Gilbert (Sherry), Carolyn O'Hearn (Michael) of Lancaster, KY, Ganelle Hooks (Chad) and Carrie Perry Jonesborough (Brian); his siblings, Sterling Gilbert (Wilma) of Knob Lick, KY and Marylou Marcum (Art) of McWhorter, KY; and his grandchildren, Abraham Hooks, Samuel Hooks, James Hooks, Scobee O'Hearn, Robert Gilbert and Jacob Perry. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren.
