He was predeceased by: his mother Jewel Cowden; his wife Shirley Cowden; his father Charles Bruce Cowden; his stepmother Edna; and his siblings, Roy, Jerry, Hattie and Barbara.

He is survived by: his daughter Angela (Jeff Ferris); his grandson Tommy; his son Gary (Becky); his granddaughter Haley; and his siblings, Betty, Peggy (Harron), James, Charles (Shirley) and Robert (Linda). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
