He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucy Etta Barnett and Joe Kern; his brother Don Kern; his parents-in-law, Fancler and Lokeel Mutter; his grandson Calum Shupe; and his brother-in-law James Boggs.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Shupe; his son Joel Shupe (Erika) of Kingsport, TN; and his siblings, Faye Boggs (James) of Hiltons, VA, Polly Vaughn of Kingsport, TN, Darrell Redman of Clinchport, VA, David Redman and Big. He is also survived by 5 beautiful grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
